    Journeyman Class Schedule

    Spring 2018

         The following are the Supplementary Journeyman Training Classes that will be offered through the Local 38 Training Department during the 2018 Spring Semester. To register, please contact the Local 38 Training Department by telephone at 415-562-3838 before Friday, January 12th. Please indicate which classes you are interested in attending.  Classes will begin as indicated below:

    SAN FRANCISCO CLASSES

    Revit and Navis Works Manage – Starts Tuesday, 1/16/18

    This two-night course (Tuesdays & Thursdays) offers instruction in Revit and MEP Fabrication parts with fundamentals geared toward detailing plumbing and piping systems. Also offered is instruction on Navis Works Manage, a coordination software used as the industry standard. Prerequisites for this course are: basic computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Windows, and basic Revit interface is a plus but not required. SEATING IS LIMITED TO 10 STUDENTS. Instructor: Mike Galliano.

    Backflow Testing Certification/ Backflow Survey Specialist/ Valve Repair – Starts Tuesday, 1/16/18

          This two-night course (Tuesdays & Wednesdays) will train Journeymen in:

    1) Backflow Certification – the testing of backflow devices so student will qualify for an AWWA Certification; or

    2) Backflow Survey Specialist – course will certify and instruct on how to survey buildings for the proper backflow devices. You must have a Backflow Testing Certification in order to take this course; or

    3) Backflow valve repair – course will instruct on how to repair backflow prevention devices.

    The course will conclude with a proctored examination that may be conducted on a Saturday date to be determined.  Instructors: Dan McCormick/Ray Barrett

    Thermodynamics and Basic Electricity for HVAC/R– Starts TBD

    This two night course will focus on thermodynamics and basic electricity for the HVAC/R trade. Classes will include hands on projects and class room discussion about thermodynamics and HVAC/R electrical systems. Instructor: Aaron Di Stefano.

    Medical Gas Certification – Starts Wednesday, 1/17/18

    This course will train students in Medical Gas technology, using the 2015 NFPA 99 manual, so they will qualify for their Medical Gas Installation and Brazing Certificate from National, ITC. Required Textbook: NFPA 99 Health Care Facilites Code 2015 Edition. Instructors: Shawn Amores & Chris Beering.

    Advanced Air Conditioning- Starts Tuesday 1/17/18

    This course is designed to teach students about the different systems and components used for air conditioning. Topics will include pumps and chillers. Class will focus on equipment install, trouble shooting and maintenance. Instructor: Tony Citrino

    Servicing and Troubleshooting Systems- Starts Thursday 1/18/18

    This course is designed to teach students how to handle service calls, repairs and preventive maintenances. Classes will include lectures as well as hands on practice and simulated service calls. Instructor: Mike Rydman

    Title 24 Start, Test and Balance- Starts Thursday 1/18/18

    This course is designed to teach students about methods and practices of starting, testing and balancing mechanical equipment. Students who successfully pass this course will be one step closer to becoming a Title 24 Acceptance Technician. Instructor: Jorge Paiva

    Pneumatic and Electronic Controls II – Starts Tuesday, 1/18/18

    This course will provide instruction in all methods of controlling mechanical systems from pneumatics to DDC. Classes will consist of lecture as well as hands on activities. Instructor: Edward Jordan

    Welding Course – Starts Wednesday, 1/17/18, Instructor Available Wednesdays

    This course provides multilevel instruction in all techniques of welding towards obtaining a UA Welder Certification.  Weld testing conducted at our facility.  Instructor: Ed Miltimore

    Foreman Training Course- TBA

    This updated course is will cover topics critical to the workplace and jobsite supervision, such as: leadership, relationships, documentation, planning, scheduling, suppliers and safety. Also included will be discussions on the full cost of an hour of labor and the Standard for Excellence.

    Crane Signal Person Certification- TBA

    This course is designed to teach proper crane signaling techniques. Class will include both hands on and discussions to teach the safety aspects of signaling.  At the conclusion of the class there will be an NCCCO Crane Signaler Certification exam offered for a fee. Instructor: TBA

    PEX Piping Installer Class-TBA

    This will be a two night class. Class will include lecture and hands on practice of installation of Uponor PEX piping systems. Space is limited.

    Trimble Class- TBA

    This two night class will give students an overview of the Trimble unit. Class will include hands   on practice using the Trimble unit for layout on jobsites.

    STAR Test Review- TBA

    This course will consist of multiple nights to ready members to take the UA STAR test in Plumbing, Steamfitting or HVAC/R. Classes will consist of review, practice tests and open discussion. Dates of classes will be determined by date of STAR exam.

    Beginning Rigging Course- TBA

    This course is designed to teach basic rigging skills to journeyman and apprentices. Class will include both hands on and lecture to teach the proper way to rig equipment, pipe, etc. This class may be scheduled on three or four consecutive Saturdays TBD. Instructor: Anthony Valdez/Zack Brown

    Industrial Rigging Certification- TBA

    This course is designed to teach proper rigging techniques to journeyman with previous rigging experience. Class will include both hands on and lecture to teach the proper way to rig equipment, pipe, etc. Also, covered will be weight calculations, proper sling selection and safety topics. This class may be scheduled on three or four consecutive Saturdays TBD. Students wanting to attend this course must complete and pass a written test to prove rigging experience.  Instructor: Anthony Valdez/Zack Brown

    Crane Signal Certification - TBA

     Class will consist of lecture, review of proper hand signals and simulated crane picks for students to practice the correct way to signal a crane. Students who complete course and test will receive a certificate from NCCCO.Instructor: Anthony Valdez

    Plumbing Code - Single Night Classes- TBA

    This class will consist of a series of one-night, individual topic classes including instruction and discussing on specific code provisions. Instructor:Steve Panelli.

    SANTA ROSA CLASSES

    This course will focus on Thermodynamics for the HVAC/R trade. Class will include hands on projects and class room discussion about Thermodynamics and refrigeration systems. There will be dedicated shop time for students to learn and practice brazing. Instructor: Matt Edgeman

    HVAC/R Controls- Starts Thursday, 1/18/18

    This course will teach students about the systems used to control HVAC/R equipment. Class will include both hands on and lecture and will cover topics from pneumatics to DDC. Instructor: Roger Larsen

    This course is designed to teach students about energy and water analysis and prepare an audit report that contains recommendations for savings. Students who successfully pass this course will be one step closer to becoming a Title 24 Acceptance Technician. Instructor: Dustin Woolf

    Title 24 Start, Test and Balance- Starts Tuesday 1/16/18

    This course is designed to teach students about methods and practices of starting, testing and balancing mechanical equipment. Students who successfully pass this course will be one step closer to becoming a Title 24 Acceptance Technician. Instructor: Jim Burke
